Chess Oscar

Best Chess Player Award

The "64" chess magazine is holding the annual contest and in accordance with its results the chess world by voting will choose the best grandmaster of the year 2005 and the latter will be awarded with a special prize "Oscar". We appeal to chess journalists and editions, to prominent chess experts and grandmasters, to professional chess players and amateurs and everyone who is ready to participate in this contest. The "Oscar" is awarded by way of wide questioning of hundreds of people from different countries and this award indeed shows the public opinion. The successful experience of the previous 9 years is a good proof of this fact. Nevertheless the cases of subjectivism occur - when someone who has better results is excluded from the list to promote some other players. However, if such cases do occur the Jury will investigate the reasons very thoroughly (we are ready to take into consideration any motivation) but then the judgment itself will be more strict than before. You are welcome to send your version of top 10 chess players of the previous year. You can also vote at website: www.64.ru (Russian only). They say that the rating is the best criteria to name top 10 players, however the rating does not take into consideration the difference between chess tournaments in terms of their importance. Also not every tournament is calculated for rating (rapid chess tournaments). We invite you to think over the results of the group of the leading grandmasters. Here you will find the information about the tournaments where chess players participated, points gained and ratings of nominees from FIDE Ratings Lists. There are also results from rapid chess tournaments that have come to be more popular and that surely affected the overall results of the grandmasters` achievements last year. If you think that other candidates are worth of being nominated, feel free to list them. Top 10 players will be defined by a sum of points: 1st in the list - 13 points, 2nd - 11, 3rd - 9, 4th - 7, 5th - 6, :, 10th - 1 point. The list of chess editions and persons, who will have participated in our voting, will be published on our site with the detailed information on the names and their votes. Do not lose the chance to make your vote at a right time that might be decisive of all!
